Its been a bit since I updated! I’m still trying to get used to posting onto the blog consistently, but promise I’ll get better at it! In more exciting news, I hear birds chirping outside so that means spring! Yay! Warmer weather! Yay! Excessive exclamation points! Yay!
But really, its been a long winter, and it always vamps up my spirits to finally see some sunshine. Its with this new energy that I decided to get up out of bed and write this post, so now I’m gonna talk about a new painting in progress and some tweaking I worked into a previous painting (of Liam) which you can see here in this post.
The new painting in progress is one of my friend Allyx. So far in the series of portraits that I’m doing, I’ve been inspired by photos that were taken of my friends and I liked them so much I wanted to paint them. Whether I felt connected to the energy of the photo, the pose of the figure, the expression of the persons face, or there was something else there that I resonated with, I knew I wanted to record that feeling in my own way. I think that for me, there is an underlying need to connect to others that makes portraiture so appealing.
Painting comes in as an ideal media when I do portraiture, because it’s never static and I can free my hand with the brush and do what feels right at the moment. Then I can go back and add layers and change up areas that don’t feel satisfying. My latest works are more expressive than what I have ever tried before, and maybe its for my love of Expressionism in art as well as a few other artists I’m currently influenced by. I do want to write posts about both topics in the future.
For now, here are my paintings. Hope you enjoy them!

Looks great! Maybe you could post the original photos that you used as inspiration too
That’s a good idea! I had thought of it but looks like I definitely should add them:)
